Snowshoe Costume
Snowshoe costumes are a sporting uniform of the mid-to-late 19th century that evolved out of the earlier blanket coats of the Hudson's Bay Company and French-Canadian dress.
This snowshoe costume was modelled after examples in period photographs by William Notman. The outfit was created to be worn for Canada's 150th anniversary. This style of dress is often called "Canadian Costume" because it was perceived as Canadian national dress of the 19th century.
This outfit includes the blanket coat as well as Astrakhan wedge cap, gauntlet mitts and waistcoat (under the coat). The loom woven ceinture was handmade by weaver Spinner & Skinner.
Ties
Made-up (pre-tied) silk ties and cravats. Made-up ties were popular during the 19th and early 20th centuries.
